Digvijay flays CM for not attending Pandharpur puja

Pune: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis doesn’t have faith in Lord Vitthal. If he had, he would have performed the annual customary puja in Pandharpur on Ashadhi Ekadashi, claimed senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh.
Singh was speaking at a press meet in Pune on Monday. He said, “Chief Minister Fadnavis is responsible for the Maratha and Dhangar agitations as he failed to fulfil the promises he made to them. Fadnavis had assured he would decide on their demands within a month. However, he did nothing in that direction. It is obvious these communities are disappointed with his government.”
Singh said, “It is a tradition that the incumbent chief minister of the State takes part in the puja on the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi. However, there was no BJP minister during the puja. I don’t know what they fear.”
He alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is merely politicising religion. He claimed, “Its leaders don’t have respect for the religion. On one hand, they are emphatic about building the Ram temple in Ayodhya. On the other hand, the BJP-led government in UP is demolishing temples in Varanasi, which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency.”
Explaining the Congress party’s stand on the ‘no-trust’ motion which was rejected in Lok Sabha, he claimed, “The BJP has got the support of 31 per cent of voters and not the 125 crore people of this country. The government has failed to fulfil its promises and its alliance partners are leaving the BJP. Its party leader Murli Manohar Joshi himself admitted that the government’s scored card was zero. Right from the beginning, we knew we didn’t have numbers but it is one of the ways in the democracy to show that the government has lost the ‘trust’ of the people for not fulfilling its promises the party made before polls.”
Commenting on mob lynching incidents, he said, “This country belongs to all its peoples. We are a multi-ethnic society. Hate is being spread and innocent people are being killed. Unfortunately, the prime minister doesn’t have time to comment on these lynchings. On the contrary, he tweets various yoga postures.”
