Deputy director of land records dept held in graft case

PUNE: Over a month after his anticipatory bail applications were rejected, Deputy Director Balasaheb Wankhede of Bhumi Abhilekh (Land Records) department was arrested on Monday by the Pune Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with a Rs 1.7 crore bribery case.

A team under supervision of Superintendent of Police (ACB-Pune range) Sandip Diwan, DySP Suhas Nadgouda arrested Wankhede on Monday. He was produced before a special court, which remanded him to police custody till March 28.

On November 22, 2018, Adv Umesh More had lodged a complaint with ACB stating that for changing mutation entries about land at City Survey No. 2025 situated in Parvati, the accused (Wankhede) demanded the bribe through co-accused advocate Rohit Shende. Wankhede had allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore for giving favourable order. The ACB had laid a trap and nabbed Shende accepting Rs 1.7 crore (Rs 5 lakh in genuine notes and remaining were papers).
