Pune: A Pune-based 62-year-old man has been booked by the Delhi police for molesting an air hostess while exiting an airplane at Delhi airport.
The Delhi police have confirmed that the man was arrested and later, he was granted bail. The person has been identified as Rajeev Vasant Dani, a resident of Pune and sugar expert of Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI).
Sanjay Bhatia, DCP (airport) said, “The incident took place on March 24, a crew member of Vistara airline, reported a matter of harassment in flight no. UK-997 from Lucknow to Delhi. On the basis of her complaint, the passenger was arrested.”
“The complainant said that when passengers were de-boarding the flight at Delhi airport, as per her job, she was standing near the exit gate and guiding passengers when the accused touched her inappropriately. She said that during the flight, the man had tried to touch her several times but she ignored him but at the exit gate when he again repeated the act, she reported the matter to senior crew members and the man was detained by the security staff. He was later handed over to IGI police staff,” said Bhatia.
A case under IPC section 354 A (sexual harassment) has been registered. The accused was arrested and presented before a magistrate who granted him bail.
When contacted, Rajeev Dani told Sakal Times, “It was just a misunderstanding and I haven't done anything inappropriate and the court will take the final decision about it.”
Vistara has issued an official statement over the incident. “A member of our cabin crew operating in flight no. UK997 from Lucknow to Delhi on 24 March 2018, reported an incident of sexual harassment by a passenger. Vistara does not tolerate abusive or unruly behaviour by passengers that puts the safety of its staff and other customers at risk or compromises their dignity. We have reported the matter to the police and other relevant authorities. An FIR is registered and an investigation is on. We are fully committed to providing our cooperation to all the authorities,” said a Vistara spokesperson.
