Pune: A delegation of corporators met Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister for Defence in New Delhi on Saturday regarding demolition of houses within the vicinity of Lohegaon Airport and regarding the water pipeline passing through the Defence area in Kondhwa.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan took lead to organise this meeting.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has alloted Rs 6 crore for procuring adequate water supply for the Kondhwa region. Part of the pipeline admeasuring 400 m passes through the Defence area and hence needs their NOC. The storage tank of 60 lakh litres capacity has been constructed.

A pipeline in the civil area has been laid. However the distribution can be augmented only after clearance from the Defence Ministry. Local NCP corporator Nanda Lonkar has been following up with this proposal for more than three years.

For demolition of houses near Lohegaon Airport, NCP corproator Sunil Tingre, urged that the list of houses served notices for demolition by the Pune Municipal Corporation needs to be reviewed as per the guidelines issues by the Ministry of Defence, failing which great injustice would be caused to the affected.

Sitharaman  assured that she will look into the matter and do the needful. She has instructed concerned joint secretary to submit a detailed report regarding the same.
