Pimpri: A day after Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) General Body (GB) passed the proposal in favour of merging nine villages, including pilgrim centre Dehu into its limits, the villagers of Dehu passed a proposal in its Gram Sabha, opposing its merger into PCMC limits.
On Tuesday, the representatives at Dehu Gram Panchayat demanded that the government should initiate a proposal for forming a municipal council instead of merging it into PCMC.

Earlier, the proposal to merge Dehugaon in PCMC was put on hold following opposition from the villagers.

Sarpanch of Dehu Village, Usha Chavan said, “A meeting was called to oppose the proposed merger into PCMC limits. We are going to demand the formation of a municipal council.”

Meanwhile, Dehu Gram Sabha has passed a resolution for formation of a municipal council. The petition regarding the same is pending in the High Court.

Unlike villagers from Dehugaon, Hinjawadi villagers are in favour of the merger into PCMC limits. Former Sarpanch of Hinjawadi, Shyamrao Hulawale said, “After the merger, we hope that the area will get proper civic amenities, which Hinjawadi Gram Panchayat was unable to provide.”

Villagers of Nere, Man and Marunji are also against the merger.
