Defence Accounts Department celebrates Annual Day with glee

PUNE: The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) celebrated its annual day on October 1. DAD, which has lived through more than two-and-half centuries is one of the oldest departments under the government of India. Its origin can be traced to Military Pay Master under East India Company.
DAD is responsible for audit, accounting, payment and financial advice function with respect to defence budget. Thus the department caters for all the three wings of Armed Forces, Ordnance Factories, DRDO, CSD, Coast Guard and BRO under the Ministry of Defence.
Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Officers) is one of the premier organisations of DAD. It is entrusted with pre-audit and payment of pay and allowances and all claims of about 54,000 officers of Indian Army. Its strategic mission aims at providing responsive and professional, financial and accounting services. This encompasses timely payment of pay and allowances, finalising of DSOP fund account of Army Officers and pension claims on retirement.
“True to its moto ‘Service to the services’, this office is aiming at real time adjustment of Pay and Allowances of the Army Officers across the length and breadth of the country. As part of paperless initiative of government of India, this office has taken up the online publication and forwarding of Part II Orders by all Army units in a phased manner. This will go a long way in minimising the delay and ensure credit to the Army Officers accounts in real time,” a press release from Defence PRO stated.
On this occasion, AV Rao, Principal Controller congratulated the staff of the organisation. He also gave away the excellence awards to outstanding officers and staffers.
Various competitions were organised as part of the celebrations and the winners were awarded for their performance in sports and extra-curricular activities.A cultural programme was also organised.
