Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has decided not to ply buses until they receive confirmation from the police that there will not be violence on Thursday, which is going to be observed as ‘Maharashtra Bandh.’

The Maratha protesters had torched several buses of PMPML in Chakan on July 31 during protests. The violence at Chakan had resulted in the PMPML suffering losses of nearly Rs 1.5 crore. While nine buses of PMPML were burnt, two buses belonging to private contractors also met the same fate.

“We will take a decision of running buses only after talking with the police department. During the protest in Chakan recently, nine buses were burnt and, hence, we don’t want to take the risk,” said Nayana Gunde, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of PMPML.

However, officials said that they will ply buses if there is no violence. “We will run buses like any on other day but there is a possibility that buses will not ply on selective routes,” said a senior officer.
