Decision after DPR and land availability check

Pune: Days after Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee’s approval to make DPR of Vanaz to Ramwadi Metro extension up to Pune Airport and Wagholi,  the administration has stated  that the decision regarding the extension can’t be made before preparing the DPR and checking land availability.

On Tuesday, the Standing Committee okayed extension of metro route from Ramwadi to Wagholi and Pune airport on Tuesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took the decision even as NCP corporator Tingre had already handed over a letter to PMC to extend the route.

In May, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Sunil Tingre from Nagpur Chawl ward area handed over a proposal to the Standing Committee to extend Metro route up to Pune Airport and Wagholi area due to urbanisation and increasing traffic. It was sent to administration to take their opinion.

The civic administration replied to the letter. It said, “Pune Mahanagar Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) is preparing an integrated traffic plan. As per this plan, PMRDA is looking for land for Metro route, financial viability, traffic studies, number of commuters and route feasibility. If PMRDA suggests metro route extension, we will think about extension of Pune airport and Wagholi routes.”

Yogesh Mulik, Chairman of the Standing Committee said, “Pune-Nagar Road has several IT companies. There are many IT professionals working in these companies who travel to their destination. As a result, there is more traffic on this road compared to other roads. Therefore, people are demanding extension of the metro route. We have decided to do so. We will give funds to MahaMetro to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these route extensions.”
