Pune: Dr Ajay Chandanwale, Dean of BJ General Medical College (BJGMC) and Sassoon General Hospital (SGH), was transferred on Tuesday evening to Grant Medical College and Sir Jamshedjee Jeejeebhoy Group of Hospitals, Mumbai. Dr Chandanwale has served as the dean of BJGMC for seven years.

Speaking at a media interaction, Dr Chandanwale said that he will have to follow the order of the State government. “After the relieving orders come, I will have to join the college in Mumbai. I have worked here in the hospital for seven long years. The team here was always supportive. We have introduced many projects under the corporate social responsibility (CSR), which have benefited many patients,” said Chandanwale.

However, staff and students at the college are unhappy with the decision made by the government. The staff has posted a petition on change.org to stop the transfer order of the dean.

Speaking to Sakal Times, a staff member said that under the leadership of Dr Chandanwale, the hospital has seen many positive changes and his transfer may hamper the ongoing initiatives launched at the government hospital.

Chandrakant Mokate, Shiv Sena leader from the city, has also written a letter to the chief minister in order to stop the transfer of the dean.
