Pune: Members of various organisations staged a protest outside Doordarshan’s Pune office in Kothrud on Monday demanding immediate suspension of Latif Syyed, a Doordarshan employee who was found taking a nude sunbath on Sunday.

Members of ‘Gad Kille Sanvardhan Samiti’, who work for protection of forts, submitted a letter to Doordarshan on Monday. The members carried black flags in the protest. Latif was booked by the Haveli police for taking a nude sunbath on Sinhagad Fort. Sayyed was booked under section 295 (A) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the complainant Swapnil Jamble (23), who was present at the fort on Sunday with 17 of his friends, which also included a few woman, the group had gone to the fort to clean it when they saw Latif taking a nude sunbath. “When he reached the spot, Latif was lying naked on a chair. When we questioned him about his behaviour, he said that he is in need of vitamin D and so was taking a nude sunbath. Latif then wrapped himself in a towel and rushed from the spot.”

“Sinhagad fort is known for the glories of Shivaji Maharaj and if Latif is involved in such acts, it will certainly hurt our beliefs. We came to know that Latif works as an assistant engineer at Doordarshan and we demand his immediate suspension,” added Swapnil.

A video of the incident was circulated on social media, in which Latif said that he needs Vitamin D and was hence nude. A senior officer from DD assured the protesting persons that such actions won’t be repeated.
