Dastangoi artist Ankit Chadha drowns in lake

Pune: Critically acclaimed performer Ankit Chadha (30), a ‘Dastangoi’ artist, who was to perform at Gyaan Adab on Saturday, allegedly drowned in a tragic accident on May 9.

According to Shruthi Vishwanath, a friend and collaborator of Ankit, the deceased and his friend were out on a walk near Uksan Lake near Kamshet and they slipped and fell into the water. She added in her Facebook post that his friend managed to get to safety and brought villagers to the spot. But as it was past sunset, locating Chadha was difficult. When villagers managed to retrieve him two hours later, it was too late.

Ankit used to perform research based narratives and had performed in universities like Harvard, Yale and Toronto and extensively toured India as well

IS Patil, Police Inspector, Kamshet police station, said, “The deceased came along with his friend in the evening. While he was sitting near the lake, he slipped into the water and drowned. We handed his body over to his family on Thursday.”
