Dairy owner murdered by paneer vendor for defaulting on payment

Pune: A 37-year-old dairy owner was brutally murdered by another trader after a dispute over payment for Indian cheese (paneer) near Navle Bridge in Vadgaon on Sunday night. The police arrested two suspects.

The deceased was identified as Balasaheb Patil, while the arrested persons are Kunal Randive and his friend Sagar Giri.

As per officials from the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, Patil owned Yash Dairy in Narhe and Randive used to supply paneer to him on credit. For the last few months, Randive had been asking for payment of Rs 1.5 lakh from Patil for the paneer he bought.

On Sunday night, they met for drinking liqour and after that they were waiting near a petrol pump at Navle Bridge when Randive again asked for the money. After an argument, Randive took out a chopper and assaulted Patil several times, resulting in his death on the spot.

Based on information given by Patil’s wife that Randive was asking for money, the police nabbed him and he reportedly admitted to the murder. Randive claimed that like Patil, other dairy owners owed him Rs 6 lakh and because of this he was not able to purchase paneer and supply it to them.
