Dahi Handi fest peaceful

PUNE: Barring a few minor incidents, the Dahi Handi celebrations in the city remained peaceful on Tuesday. Over a 1,000 mandals celebrated the festival in the city. 

Speaking to Sakal Times, Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam said the festival was enjoyed by many people and law and order of the city was under control. 

Dr Dnyaneshwar Shelke of Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) which runs the ‘108’ ambulance service, shared that on August 14, as many as 904 complaints were answered which rose to 1,025 on August 15.   Dr Jyotsna Mane of MEMS said there was no specific category for Dahi Handi related calls and there was a minor rise in the number of traffic accident calls. As per the data shared by MEMS, the number of traffic accident calls increased from 115 on August 14 to 141 on August 15. 

Doctors from Sassoon General Hospital said a large number of people with minor injuries were treated on Tuesday. 

Speaking about cases of noise pollution, Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam said the police officials have collected noise data from various points and will be taking action in a few days.
