Daan Utsav to start from today

Pune: Daan Utsav, a ‘festival of giving’, which is celebrated every year in India at a national level, will commence from Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 till October 8.

Launched in 2009, the festival aims to inspire all Indians to contribute to society in any manner they choose to and celebrate the act of giving.

Speaking about the festival in Pune, volunteer CR Khapre, said, “We are delighted to launch and look forward to the Daan Utsav initiatives this year. This is a national movement and we hope to engage every Indian in the ‘act of giving’ - money, time, skills, resources or love.”

There are eight major Daan Utsav events planned in Pune - Seva Mela which will be held at Phoenix Marketcity is an event to connect citizens of Pune to NGOs, encouraging the act of giving.

Seva Sandwich is an event where volunteers come together at different locations, make sandwiches and distribute them to the underprivileged in the vicinity. The Happy Spots event helps brighten communities and beautify neighbourhoods.

Design4Impact is a volunteer management workshop which will focus on ‘Designing effective volunteering programmes’ for  interested volunteer leaders or NGOs, ensuring more organised volunteering programmes achieving maximum impact for India’s social development.

Daan Utsav also gets support from celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar and Harsha Bhogale.
