D Litt presented to Pratap Pawar

Pune: “Merely a desire to improve the education system is not enough. There has to be a strong political and social will, which can bring about a positive change in the education system,” said Sakal Chairman Pratap Pawar on Thursday.

Pawar was honoured with a D Litt by Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth (TMV). TMV Chancellor Deepak Tilak honoured Pawar with a memento. 

TMV Pro-Vice Chancellor Geetali Mone Tilak and Registrar Abhijit Joshi were present.

Pawar was honoured with a D Litt by Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth (TMV). TMV Chancellor Deepak Tilak honoured Pawar with a memento. 

TMV Pro-Vice Chancellor Geetali Mone Tilak and Registrar Abhijit Joshi were present.

Pawar said, “There should be all-round development of society instead of the progress of a handful of people. A university plays a major role in this. The TMV will utilise its autonomy for this purpose.”

Underlining the need for vocational training, he said, “Changes in the education sector are happening slowly due to the government control and bureaucracy. Even meritorious students don’t get jobs. One should ponder over this.” 

Deepak Tilak also spoke.Pawar was awarded the degree for his outstanding contribution to the fields of business, media and social service. He has held prestigious positions in the field of business and has been on the board of directors of different business organisations.

† Accepting the D Litt, Pratap Pawar said, “It is a special honour for me from the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth. The university is being run on the basis of thoughts of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who is as inspiring as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for me.”
