Cyclone Gaja to move westward, weaken further

PUNE: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone Gaja is very likely to move nearly westwards and weaken further into a depression as on Friday and into a well marked low pressure area during subsequent 12 hours.

A fresh low pressure area is likely to form over central parts of south Bay of Bengal by the evening of November 18, said the IMD.

The met office has forecast that till November 20, heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Squally weather is likely over southwest Bay of Bengal.

The IMD has also warned fishermen not to venture into the sea during the same time.

On Friday, the highest maximum temperature reported across the country was 36.6 degrees Celsius at Bhuj in Saurashtra and Kutch. The lowest minimum temperature was at 8.2 degree Celsius at Bhilwara in east Rajasthan and Adilabad (Telangana) over the plains of the country.

Post monsoon rainfall status
Between October 1 to November 14, the country as a whole reported 53 per cent rainfall deficiency. Areas such as northwest India reported 32 per cent rainfall deficiency, central India reported 65 per cent rainfall deficiency, southern peninsula reported 47 per cent rainfall deficiency and eastern and northeastern states reported 61 per cent rainfall deficiency.

In Maharashtra, Vidarbha has reported 99 per cent deficient rainfall between October 1 and November 14. Marathwada, the drought-prone region of the State, has reported 87 per cent rainfall deficiency followed by central Maharashtra, which has reported 69 per cent deficiency. Konkan and Goa have reported 57 per cent deficiency.

LOWEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE IN STATE
- Pune city and Nashik on Friday reported the lowest minimum temperature in the State at 11.8 degrees Celsius.
- IMD has forecast that Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra may experience rainfall between November 18 and November 20. During the same time, Vidarbha and Marathwada may experience dry weather.
