Cy-Fi Karandak aimed at creating cyber security awareness

Pune: Among the alarming issues highlighted in the society is rising cybercrimes and its vulnerability. Keeping this in mind, theatre artistes from across Pune, Maharashtra and Goa have come up with one-act play to showcase the trends of cyber security and its threats at the 'Cy-Fi Karandak 2017' organised by Quickheal at Bharat Natya Mandir in Sadashiv Peth which started on Friday.

The three-day event from December 22-24, will host a unique one-act play competition aimed at creating awareness about cyber security in association with Pune city police. Nineteen teams out 104 entries have qualified to compete in the event.

“There is a lack of awareness about cybercrimes, laws and its effects in the society. The areas which will be concentrated by the artistes are why does cybercrimes occur, what kind of cyber attacks happen, its human vulnerability, issues of ethics when new technology evolves, identity thefts, trolls, fraudulence and more,” said Pradeep Vaidya, Director of Expression Labs.

Speaking about articulating a serious topic through theatre, Vaidya said, “Theatre is an art form which connects easily with people and due to its respectable status in the society, citizens come to watch them. So, we thought that this will be a powerful medium to reach out and create awareness about cyber security and threats.”

The homework for the competition had begun four months ago which included extensive methods like workshops for participants where they were mentored about challenges and limitations on representation of visual elements in theatre etc. before they could plan about their presentation.
