Customers duped of Rs 3.65 lakh

PUNE: Unidentified persons have been booked by Vimantal police station for allegedly cheating customers of a private insurance company of Rs 3.65 lakh by changing registered mobile numbers associated with their EMI cards. 

The fraudsters then shopped on e-commerce websites. Hemant Ahirrao (39) of Ambegaon Pathar has lodged a complaint. 

According to the police, the incident took place between May and October this year. The fraudsters had called the customer care number and got the phone numbers changed pretending to be the actual customers. 

The police have booked the unidentified accused person for offences under sections 419 (impersonation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
