Crime Woman killed, dumped in water tank

Pune: A 42-year-old woman was allegedly murdered and her body was dumped in the water tank of a housing society in Ambegaon Pathar. The incident came to light on Saturday morning. The victim was missing since August 23.

The deceased has been identified as Sapna Tamang (42), a resident of Shivneri Housing Society in Ambegaon Pathar. The police have detained a suspect in connection with the murder. The police are investigating the motive behind her murder. There are some marks on the woman’s body, officials said.

A resident  told Sakal Times, “The tank is used to store water when the overhead tank is full. A person saw the body when he removed the cover of the tank. He informed the other society members and the police were called. Initially, we thought that the body is that of a man. But when it was taken out of the tank, we realised that it is that of a woman who lived on the first floor of the four storeyed building above the tank. The accused person had used a bedsheet to lower the body into the tank.”

When contacted, senior Police Inspector Vishnu Pawar, in-charge of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, said, “We are yet to know the exact cause of her death. The post-mortem is being done at Sassoon Hospital. From preliminary enquiry, we have learnt that it is a case of murder. We will register an FIR after getting the report from the hospital.”

Another officer added, “We have come to know that she was living separately from her husband for over a decade. She was currently in a live in relationship with another man. The room was taken on rent by someone else, while there were several persons staying there. Most of them are from Nepal.”
