Courtesy is the key in legal profession: Justice Kohli

Justice Hima Kohli said, “Courtesy is the key in legal profession which includes courtesy towards court, courtesy towards clients and courtesy towards family. Practical training is essential for a law student in order to develop lawyering skills.”

PUNE: Justice Hima Kohli, Judge of Delhi High Court, on Sunday said that the legal profession is a gentleman’s profession and that courtesy is the key in the legal profession.

She was addressing law students on the occasion of ‘Surana & Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition & National Judgment Writing Competition’ held at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University’s New Law College, Pune.

Justice Hima Kohli, Judge of Delhi High Court,  said, “Courtesy is the key in legal profession which includes courtesy towards court, courtesy towards clients and courtesy towards family. Practical training is essential for a law student in order to develop lawyering skills.”

Justice Sandeep Sharma, Judge, Himachal Pradesh High Court also addressed the students. The judge said, “Conduct is important for a successful career in legal profession. Young lawyers should strive hard to become good human beings.”

Principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Law College Prof Doctor Mukund Sarda said while addressing the students, “International lawyering is essential for the young lawyers. Law has socio economic purpose also, quality education is essential in all fields.”

On Saturday, while inaugurating the competition, Justice Deepak Gupta, Judge, Supreme Court of India, said, “Trial advocacy needs skill in lawyers. A good trial advocate requires patience in listening and politeness. Fairness is the crux of rule of law. A lawyer should have all round personality, knowledge and sensitivity. Legal aid to poor people is essential in legal field.”

The prize distribution for the competition and valedictory function was concluded on Sunday. The ceremony was concluded in the presence of Justice AM Babu, Judge, Kerala High Court and Justice AS Gaur, Judge, Rajasthan High Court, Justice Sunil B Shukre, Justice AS Chandurkar from Bombay High Court.

THE RESULTS
- The results of ‘Surana & Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition & National Judgment Writing Competition’ were declared 
- Winner: DESS Shri Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune (DES)
- Runner-Up: National University of Study & Research in Law, Ranchi
- Best Speaker: Sarthak Mehta
- Best Memorial: National University of Study & Research in Law, Ranchi
