Couple dupes bank of Rs 28 lakh for loan

Pune: A couple has been booked for duping a bank of Rs 28 lakh on the pretext of taking a home loan. A case in this regard was registered at Kondhwa police station.

The accused have been identified as Ishwar Waghmare and his wife (whose identity is unknown), both residents of Shewalewadi in Hadapsar. The couple duped Bank of Maharashtra, situated on NIBM Road, on the pretext of taking a home loan to buy a flat in Vasundhara Vaibhav Society in Kondhwa.

The couple produced fake appointment and confirmation letter of Bharat Forge, salary slips, Income Tax returns and other documents, including a fake demand letter from Vasundhara Developers. The couple duped the bank between January 8 and 19.

Kondhwa police said that all the documents produced by the couple were fake.

They submitted those documents to the bank and asked them to transfer Rs 28 lakh to a fake account created by them in the name of Vasundhara Developers at Latur Urban Cooperative Bank in Lulla Nagar.

The incident came to light when the bank didn’t receive any monthly instalments from the couple and was unable to
contact them.

The bank then reported the matter to Kondhwa police station, who registered a case of cheating against the accused couple, who are still at large.
