Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) associate member in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Ruksana Inamdar was disqualified by PMC Commissioner Kunal Kumar on Thursday following the caste verification committee declaring her caste certificate invalid.

During the recently concluded civic elections, Inamdar contested as an independent candidate from Ramtekdi-Vaiduwadi-Sayyednagar ward, which was reserved for other backward class (OBC) category members.

While filing her nomination papers, she submitted a caste certificate stating she belongs to the OBC category, but Sarika Shinde, Tanaji Lakade and Usha Lakade challenged her certificate before the caste verification committee.

The District Caste Verification Committee found in its investigation that the caste certificate is invalid and wrote a letter to the PMC to disqualify her from the post of corporator. Acting on the letter sent by the committee, the civic administration prepared a proposal regarding her disqualification, which was accordingly approved by the municipal commissioner.
