Cops return stolen ornaments worth Rs 45 lakh to the owners

The city police have returned ornaments worth Rs 4 crore to victims of crime incidents during Rashmi Shukla's tenure so far. 

Pune: Officials of the city police returned recovered ornaments worth Rs 45 lakh to 72 victims of crime incidents on Wednesday evening at Shivajingar police head quarters. 

It was a moment of joy for these victims when they received their belongings from Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla. All senior police officials were present at the event.  Speaking at the event Shukla said that citizens should treat police officials with respect and as their family members. “You keep trust in us and we assure you that we will keep you safe round the clock,” Shukla told the victims who were present at the event.

The commissioner highlighted that people should understand that police officials work for the society and not for themselves.

After receiving their belongings, people thanked the city police for their dedication. Deepak Sawant, whose wife was robbed of ornaments in a PMPML bus near Pune station recollected the robbery incident. “After years of service as a teacher and with my savings I had brought ornaments for my wife. She was depressed since the robbery incident and I hope that after handing over the ornaments to her she will be happy,” said Sawant after receiving the stolen ornaments.

This is the fourth such event being held after Rashmi Shukla joined as police commissioner. The city police have returned ornaments worth Rs 4 crore to victims of crime incidents during her tenure so far.
