According to police, Checkmate collects cash from its client companies in the city. Its employees carry the cash to the bank and deposit it in respective accounts. Checkmate employed Kale to steer the cash collection van. On Monday, he was on van duty on Sinhagad Road area. After collecting cash for the day, Kale was supposed to deposit Rs 34,00,101 in Axis Bank’s Sinhagad Road branch.

DCP (Zone II) Dr Pravin Mundhe said, “The van dropped Kale outside the bank at 12.30 pm. He was given bags of cash to deposit. He entered the bank but didn’t deposit the cash. He waited for the van to leave for another duty. He exited the bank and fled with the cash instead of depositing it.”

“The bank’s CCTV footage captured Kale’s movements. Our teams visited his house at his native place but we we did not find him there.
