Madhusudhan Korekar added, “I have alerted the garden department of PMC at Sambhaji Park and requested them to share data of past six months about permission given by the factory authorities. The data did not show that the permission was sought by the company to cut the trees.”

PUNE: Madhusudhan Korekar, a resident of Katraj-Kondhwa area alleged that 30 to 35 trees were axed down by officials of a private company on Katraj-Kondhwa Road opposite Shatrunjay Temple. Korekar (61) has approached Kondhwa police and garden in-charge of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding this illegal felling of trees.

He said the trees were cut by the company officials. However, according to officials of Sansui Electronics Pvt Ltd, they only trimmed trees for beautification of the premises.

Korekar told Sakal Times, “The trees were cut and the stumps can still be seen on the premises.”

He added, “I have alerted the garden department of PMC at Sambhaji Park and requested them to share data of past six months about permission given by the factory authorities. The data did not show that the permission was sought by the company to cut the trees.”

Korekar then approached Kondhwa police station along with the information sought through RTI.

Sunil Desadla, Director of the company denied the charges and claimed the trees were merely trimmed. He said, “We use a new laser-cutting machine for cutting metal. In case of sparks felling in nearby areas, the trees tend to get damaged. To avoid any unforeseen event, we have trimmed a few long branches.”

While speaking to Sakal Times, Krishna Kamble, Police Sub Inspector (PSI) of Kondhwa police station said, “We are investing the allegations made by Korekar. We will follow the due process once it is clear that the offence has been committed.”
