Cops book NCP corporator Deepak Mankar, builder, others for abetting social worker’s suicide

Pune: NCP corporator Deepak Mankar, builder Sudheer Karnataki, their accomplice Bhole and others were booked by the police on Sunday for abetting the suicide of social worker Jitendra Jagtap. 

The accused allegedly threatened Jagtap after a dispute regarding a plot in Rasta Peth. Jagtap had committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Ghorpadi on Saturday. 

Pune: NCP corporator Deepak Mankar, builder Sudheer Karnataki, their accomplice Bhole and others were booked by the police on Sunday for abetting the suicide of social worker Jitendra Jagtap. 

The accused allegedly threatened Jagtap after a dispute regarding a plot in Rasta Peth. Jagtap had committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Ghorpadi on Saturday. 

After the police recovered a suicide note, Jagtap’s son Jayesh (26) lodged a complaint against the accused persons with the Government Railway Police (GRP), who transferred the case to Samarth police station for further investigation. Jayesh Jagtap’s younger brother Shailesh is a head constable with the Pune city police. According to officials of the Samarth police, Jagtap worked as a custodian for the land situated near Samarth police station. 

There was a dispute between Mankar, who owns the land, and Jagtap regarding payment for his services as custodian. “There had been three meetings regarding the same. In the meeting on Friday, they had again threatened my father of dire consequences. They wanted him to sign papers and my father wanted the payment before signing,” Jayesh told the police. 

Police officials said that when Jagtap went to the plot on Saturday, accused Bhole and others intimidated him, after which he went to the railway tracks and committed suicide.
