Cops arrest three for possessing five pistols

PUNE: Sleuths from the Anti-Dacoity Cell (ADC) of Pune police crime branch have nabbed three persons for illegally possessing five pistols and 16 cartridges. They were arrested on Saturday at Sangamwadi bus stand.

Police identified the arrested persons as Nitin Sudhakar Avchite (30) of Talegaon, who currently resides in Yerawada, Mayur Ramdas Sutar (29) of Vadgaon and Sagar Baban Gole of Navi Mumbai.

According to police, Sutar is a criminal on police records with eight cases registered against him for offences like robbery, murder and attempt to murder. Avchite is also a history sheeter with four cases, including murder and theft. Sutar and Avchite had been recently released on bail in a murder case.

Acting on a tip-off received by Police Naik Parvez Jamadar, officials said that they laid a trap and nabbed Avchite and Sutar from the Sangamwadi bus stand on Saturday. Later, Avchite took them to Gole in Vadgaon Maval taluka from whom cops recovered three pistols and three cartridges and also seized his i20 car and arrested him. Police said that the five pistols are totally worth Rs 2 lakh while the 16 cartridges are worth Rs 3,200 and the car is worth Rs 8 lakh. An FIR against the accused persons has been registered with Yerawada police station for offences under the Indian Arms Act and the Mumbai Police Act. 

DCP (crime) Pankaj Dahane and ACP Suresh Bhosale guided the investigation team led by Police Inspector Rajendra Kadam.
