Contractor booked for dumping debris in nala

Pune: A contractor has been booked by Wanawadi police station for allegedly dumping debris in a nala and blocking it in Sayyednagar.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) lodged the complaint alleging that the contractor has damaged its property.

The police identified the contractor as Atul Tukaram Bahirat of Hadapsar. Govinda Krishna Patole (25) from the Wanawadi ward office lodged the complaint on Tuesday.

According to the police, the contractor with the help of three dumper trucks got the debris lifted from a Kumar Builders site near Magarpatta City and dumped it in the nala adjacent to survey number 97. “He had been dumping the debris for the last two days. After we got a complaint from corporator Ruksana Inamdar, we inspected the site and found that debris had blocked the nala for about 200 feet on the bank and 30 feet inside and also damaged trees. When confronted, the contractor said he had taken permission from farm owner Hingne. But the PMC is the owner of the nala and not Hingne, whose farm is situated along the bank of the nala,” Patole stated in his complaint.

The police have charged the contractor for offences under sections 447, 427, 336 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Maharashtra Trees Felling Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
