Pune: Around 500 people, mainly Congress Party activists, carried out a protest rally against the rising prices of petrol and diesel on Tuesday. They started from Mandai and concluded the rally at the collector’s office, where they submitted a letter to the district collectorate demanding immediate reduction in prices of diesel and petrol.
City Congress President Ramesh Bagwe said that the prices of petrol and diesel have continued to increase under the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Avinash Bagwe said that both the Centre and the State are levying taxes, causing the price rise.
“The cascading affect of this is causing price rise in all other commodities, which is affecting the common man. We have demanded immediate reduction in prices or else we will be forced to organise another massive protest. There are various charges from the government on fuel, including drought cess and other charges, which should be dropped by the government,” said Avinash Bagwe.
Petrol prices crossed the Rs 80 per litre mark last week.
