Pune: Son of Sangli-based Congress corporator Pushpalata Patil was arrested for allegedly threatening a police constable with a pistol on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in the jurisdiction of Market Yard police station.

The incident took place when the constable intervened to stop the accused from assaulting his wife at his home. The accused was identified as Mayuresh Patil (36), a resident of Solitaire Apartments in Market Yard. Patil runs a wine shop at Gangadham Chowk. The complainant, Gyaneshwar Todkar, a police constable with Market Yard police, was on beat marshal duty. He went to the accused’s house along with a policeman after a complaint call was made by Patil’s wife at Market Yard police station.

The police said the accused took out his revolver and threatened to kill Todkar. He allegedly pointed a gun on Todkar and said, “Yethun gela nahin tar thokun takin” (I will kill you if you do not leave from here).

“We registered a case against Patil and arrested him on Sunday morning,” Todkar told Sakal Times.

Pravin Mundhe, DCP (Zone-2) said, “The case was registered at night but the senior officer delayed the arrest. I am going to take action against the concerned officers and also send an application to suspend the accused’s gun licence.”
