Congress president had shared a video showing faces of two minors on social media. The video had caused outrage on social media platforms and grabbed attention at the national level as yet another incident of caste-based violence.

Pune: A complaint was filed on Wednesday at the Deccan police station by a Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha activist against Congress President Rahul Gandhi for sharing a video on the social media which shows faces of two minors from the backward community being beaten up by a person.

The video, which recently went viral amid a controversy, shows two minor boys from the Matang community being inhumanely beaten up with a belt and stick.

The video had caused outrage on social media platforms and grabbed attention at the national level as yet another incident of caste-based violence. The two minors were on a vacation to their relative’s place at Wakdi village of Jamner taluka in Jalgaon. They went swimming in a well belonging to an upper caste person, who then paraded them naked and beat them up.

Rahul Gandhi has been aggressive and outspoken about caste and religious violence on the social media. He shared the video clip on Twitter but the version of the video that he shared, clearly showed the faces of the two children. This has given the BJP an excuse to attack the Congress president.

Ram Satpute, the Vice-President for Maharashtra of the BJP Yuva Morcha, is the complainant. “The boys in the video are minors. The offence registered against the perpetrator was under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said Satpute, adding, “We have complained to the police to take action against Gandhi for disclosing the identities of the minor victims and to file an FIR against him at the earliest.”
