Compensate farmers on time: Dalvi tells govt officials

Pune: Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Dalvi on Thursday advised all government officials to take timely steps while handling the issue OF compensation of farmers as many of them continue to suffer after they parted with their land for development work. 

Dalvi held a workshop on land acquisition and rehabilitation with government officials on Thursday at the Council Hall. He said that not tackling the compensation issue of farmers on time led to increase in cost of the development project and also delayed it.

Dalvi held a workshop on land acquisition and rehabilitation with government officials on Thursday at the Council Hall. He said that not tackling the compensation issue of farmers on time led to increase in cost of the development project and also delayed it.

"The new act works in favour of farmers and so the rehabilitation, compensation, resettlement should be handled positively by the officials," added Dalvi. 

On Wednesday, farmers affected by the Bhama Askhed project staged a protest at the collectorate. They demanded land as compensation to the land acquired for the project. They claim that the ready reckoner rate will be too low as compensation.
