Commercial vehicles picking up passengers at airport to be charged

Commercial vehicles picking up passengers at airport to be charged

PUNE: The Pune Airport authorities have decided to collect Rs 40 from commercial (yellow number plate) vehicles for picking passengers on their premises. There are no charges for dropping passengers for both private and commercial vehicles.

Thousands of vehicles enter the premises to drop and pick passengers. Dropping passengers near the departure area is easy as there are two exit gates, where these vehicles can easily go out from the premises. However, while picking, vehicles are parked near the arrival area and wait to pick passengers over 10 minutes, which causes inconvenience to other passengers and vehicles exiting from the premises.

“We have decided not to charge vehicles for dropping passengers coming in private or commercial vehicles,” said Ajay Kumar, Director, Pune Airport.

“Charges will be applicable only for commercial vehicles (yellow plate number) at Rs 40 for picking passengers,” Kumar added.

Kumar clarified that the vehicles parked inside the parking area and picking passengers from there will not have to pay this charge. “They have to pay the parking fees only. The Rs 40 charge is not applicable to Ola and Uber cabs as they have been already allotted space,” he added.

PARKING CHARGES REDUCED AT THE AIRPORT
Meanwhile, the Pune Airport Advisory Committee on Thursday held a meeting headed by MP Anil Shirole. It was decided to reduce the parking charge for vehicles parked in the parking area. Charges for parking a two-wheeler and other vehicles will continue to be Rs 10 and

Rs 20, respectively, for the first 30 minutes. The charges to park a bus for the same time period will be Rs 30. The charges will apply from April 1, 2019.

“The rates for parking two-wheelers for a period between 30 minutes and 120 minutes have been brought down from Rs 20 to Rs15. Similarly, the rates for car and three-wheeler parking have been brought down from Rs 80 to Rs 55,” said the director.

Besides, the rates to park SUVs and minibuses in the 30-120 minute category have been brought down from Rs 100 to Rs 60. The new rates of parking buses and trucks will be Rs 70.

After the completion of two hours, Rs 10 per hour will be charged for all vehicles. The additional per-hour parking charges for two-wheelers will be Rs 5 per hour. “The parking rates beyond 7 hours and up to 24 hours will be 300 per cent of the charges in the 30-120 minute slab,” Ajay Kumar said.

With roads around the airport remaining narrow and commuting is becoming a bigger problem, Pune MP and President of the Advisory Committee Anil Shirole said a special meeting will be convened next week to discuss all issues.
