CoEP to soon get land at Chikhali

Pune: The College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) will soon get land for expansion of its departments at Chikhali in Pimpri-Chinchwad area. The decision to provide additional land to CoEP was declared by the State Revenue and Forest Department on Tuesday.

“We have been pursuing this deal for past couple of years. We are thankful that the State government has approved providing us the land. It will be beneficial for us, since the land is located amidst the industry dominated area between Chikhali and Moshi, which means we have access to Chakan and Bhosari industrial areas. Our plans are to build a research and development park under these industries which will be an aid to our research work,” said Director of CoEP, BB Ahuja.

“According to the location, we have several options to expand our departments like in aerospace, biotechnology etc. Although we have not planned any courses so far, but once all the documentation and procedures are completed we can start planning what courses will be started and how many intakes will be considered,” added Ahuja.

The land has been given on lease at Re 1 for 30 years. CoEP has to approve some terms and conditions demanded by the State Revenue and Forest Department which include that the land cannot be transferred or reclaimed by any other organisation. The permission for renewal will given only if the organisation accepts the given terms and condition now and later.

Within three years of possession, work on the land should begin. It will be the responsibility of Higher and Technical Education Department to take action against any kind of encroachment, according to a Government Resolution.
