PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a decision to issue death pass and death certificate online. Under the PMC Care system, the corporation is working to develop a software under which the death pass and death certificate will be issued online.

Family members of a dead person have to obtain a death pass from the corporation to cremate the body. Without a death pass, the corporation employees do not allow cremation in the crematorium. It is a lengthy and time consuming process. Right now, only birth certificates are provided online.

Family members have to take a letter from a doctor or a corporator (in case of a death at home) for issuing the death pass. The letter will have to be uploaded on the system and after that, corporation will send a message on the registered mobile number. The message will have to be shown to the officials at the crematorium and he will issue a death pass.

While speaking to Sakal Times, Srinivas Kandul, Chief Superintendent of Corporation, said, “Pune corporation has started the process under the PMC care system. Corporation is developing a software to make the process online. With this, people will get the death pass and certificate in time. It will also be available on PMC Connect mobile apps.” He further said, “Corporation is also trying to include private hospitals to issue death pass to family members in the same hospital.”

Corporation has decided to appoint 12 officials, which can give 24x7 service to people. Corporation has also decided to put a digital screen at Vaikunth crematorium where they will display the name of the dead person.
