A proposal has been tabled before the Standing Committee to discuss during its weekly meeting on Tuesday. As per the proposal, once the citizens pay the old dues, then the PMC can manage to recover the current bills also.

The water supply department of the PMC does not charge fine or interest on water tax dues and it distributes the water tax bills every alternate month and if the citizens do not pay the bill then the dues are added in the next bills.

If the water meters are in a working condition, then the water bill is charged according to the set rate but if the meter is non-functional, then the bills are charged randomly till the citizen changes the water meter or replaces it with a new one.

However, the PMC has undertaken the round the clock water supply and it will install new water meters based on the 100 per cent ultrasonic or electromagnetic technology but unless the old water bill dues are paid, the PMC will not offer the connection under 24X7 water meter project.

So to offer an opportunity to the citizens having outstanding water bills, the PMC has decided to offer 10 per cent rebate on the water bills under the Lok Adalat organised by PMC Court and District Legal Service Authority.
