PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appointed private contractors to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the ambitious programme of ‘Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY).’
The Standing Committee of the PMC has approved a proposal in this regard on Wednesday and decided to issue the work order to Structs Consultant Pvt Ltd and Omkar Associates jointly. Once the DPR is prepared, it will be presented to the PMAY for seeking its approval and executing the project.
According to the PMC, around one lakh citizens showed interest in the PMAY under various categories and at present, the PMC has land available, which can provide homes to only 1,200 needy citizens registered under the PMAY.
Around 26,000 slum dwellers applied to avail pucca homes under the programme, where at present, their shanties are located.
24,000 citizens who belong to lower income group have applied under this scheme, while 31,000 citizens wish to be part of the scheme for developing the homes under private or partnership basis, and 17,000 citizens belong to the economically weaker section, who have applied under the scheme.
The PMAY is the flagship programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, so the ruling BJP approved the proposal of appointing the private consultants immediately after it was tabled before the Standing Committee.
Maharashtra has selected 51 cities to implement the project and Pune is one of them. The DPR will include all surveys, collection of required data from concerned competent authorities, planning and architectural work related to housing, social infrastructure, other amenities and commercial activities as required, preliminary and detailed estimation of cost with analysis, presentation of the project at various levels before competent authorities, assistance in project approval, etc.
However, now with the approval of the standing committee, the proposal will be tabled before the general body of the PMC to seek its final nod.
