PUNE: Dr Sanjay Jain, Dental Surgeon, Periodontist and Implantologist, during a press interaction, spoke about the 'Navi-Dent' Navigation Implantology Technique, which is the first of its kind in the city.

This new technique will help in 'real-time dynamic navigation', wherein the implant is placed precisely in the perfect planned location without any error.

Speaking during the interaction, Dr Jain said that traditionally, dental implants are placed in the jaw by the dentist as per patients' planning of the case and surgically placed with free hands.

“It means there is no precision in the placement due to angulation error, access error and patient jaw position. This latest revolutionary change in implant dentistry is of 'real-time dynamic navigation' wherein the implant is placed precisely in the planned location. All this can be visualised at the same time and recorded too,” said Dr Jain.

In India, the first such machine is at Dr Jain's dental care centre, where more than 25 successful implant cases have been handled so far.

Navi-Dent is a practical image guided navigation system for dental implantology.

“Surgeons view in real time the advance of the drill tip and its exact position and depth and the process begins with fitting the 'Navi stent' to the patient's jaw in a chair-side procedure that takes only a few minutes. 'Navi stent' is then securely attached to a CT marker. No lab is involved and the stability of the stent can be immediately evaluated to ensure predictable results,” explained Dr Jain.
