City doctor bags gold medal in DNB exam

Dr Rama Paranjape from Pune has won gold medal in Diplomate of National Board (DNB) exam. This is a national-level examination for doctors. She stood first in the field of Family Medicine.

Pune: Dr Rama Paranjape from Pune has won gold medal in Diplomate of National Board (DNB) exam. This is a national-level examination for doctors. She stood first in the field of Family Medicine.

DNB is considered to be equivalent to post graduate qualifications (MD/MS) awarded by Indian universities. The duration of DNB course is three years, during which the doctors are expected to gain practical knowledge while working in the hospital along with studying from books, after which they have to appear for the final exam.

The gold medal will be given to Rama at the convocation ceremony to be held at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi in September to revitalise the concept of ‘Family Doctor’.

Family Medicine is considered to be important in the field of medicine. Rama did DNB from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune and acquired MBBS degree from Smt Kashibai Navale Medical College, Pune before DNB. 

She successfully completed diploma in ‘Geriatric Medicine’ and presented her thesis on the same topic in DNB. 

Completion of certificate courses in diabetes and hypertension have added other feathers to Rama’s hat.
