City all set to celebrate good health

Pune: On the occasion of the fourth ‘International Yoga Day,’ celebrated on June 21, several yoga events have been organised in the city by different organisations as well as individuals.

Meditative Yoga International Foundation is organising ‘Yoga on Street.’ Students and members of the foundation will perform yoga from 7 am on FC Road starting from Fergusson College main gate to Good Luck Chowk. In the evening, they will perform from 4 pm to 6 pm in Savitribai Phule Garden at Pimple Saudagar.

Dinesh Talekar, President of Meditative Yoga, said, “The purpose of doing yoga on street is to invite people and to make them practice yoga with us. We are a group of 20 to 25 students, and we want this yoga day to be celebrated as a festival of people. Like any other day, people should not just watch yoga on television or see photographs in next day’s newspapers.”

Khushi Poornima Parmar, 16, a scuba diver is going to spread awareness about yoga by performing it underwater for 150 minutes. The event will take place in Deccan Gymkhana Swimming Complex, popularly known as Tilak Tank at 9 am. The event is organised by Barracuda Diving India and Finkick Adventures.

Khushi’s father Ajit said, “Khushi has made many national and international records and the reason behind her records is her dedication towards continuous practice for four to five hours daily.”

Khushi has done ‘Natural water body swimming’ for six hours 32 minutes, 10 seconds continuously without any assistance in Kolhapur on December 10, 2014. She also became the Youngest Junior Open Water Scuba diver to perform a dive of 20.5 metres on April 29, 2014.

In another event, Kothrud MIT World Peace University (MITWPU) and the World Peace Centre (Alandi) of MAEER’s MIT is organising a yoga training camp. The camp will take place at the ground of MITWPU in which around 5,000 to 6,000 students, teaching and non-teaching staff will participate.
