Chhatrapati Shivaji’s birth anniv marked with gusto

Pune: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s 388th birth anniversary was celebrated in Pune with rigour and enthusiasm. Different organisations conducted various social events. 

The procession to pay respect to the warrior king started at Lal Mahal and ended at SSPMS College Ground, where the statue of Shivaji Maharaj is located. Flowers were showered from a helicopter on the statue at the ground.

There were 65 chariots taking part in the procession and thousands of people witnessed this grand event. Pune Mayor Mukta Tilak garlanded the statue. Girls from Maharani Tararani Shourya Pathak displayed exemplary skills in dancing and demonstration of martial arts in a traditional manner. A play was conducted by group of women at Lal Mahal. 

The NCP welcomed and felicitated participants near Pune Municipal Corporation building. Sambhaji Brigade also celebrated Shiv Jayanti in the city by conducting several programmes. 

Imdadul Ummat Medical Trust organised a blood donation camp in Kondhwa Khurd on the occasion and 76 people donated their blood. Maulana Razeen Ashraf, a social activist, and Zahid Sheikh, President of Maharashta Action Committee, were present as the chief guests.

Dr Sameer Tamboli said, “We organised a blood donation camp because we wanted to erase misconceptions between communities and promote brotherhood.” 

In Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mayor Nitin Kajle garlanded Shivaji Maharaj’s statue at the corporation’s main building.
