PUNE: Following Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision to award a tender to a blacklisted contractor to collect garbage in the city, Chetan Tupe, opposition leader of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), said that this was corruption. Tupe was speaking at a press conference on Monday in the PMC.
He said, “Recently, the Standing Committee approved a tender of Rs 60 crore which is being given to a private company i.e. Global Contact. Here, they did not follow the rules for the tendering process. Other companies could not take part in the tender process. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already blacklisted the company.”
He pointed out that the tender for sanitary napkin disposal machines was also approved without the estimate committee’s approval. The committee took objection to the tender and it was scrapped. These are all corrupt practices, he added.
Speaking about Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) Metro project from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar route, he said, “It has been revealed that PMRDA has not taken any permission of the PMC. The route passes through PMC limits. It is mandatory to take permission, but it has not happened yet. On the other hand, PMRDA has completed development plan of Metro project and the State and Central government have given permission for this project. PMC has planned a BRTS route on the proposed metro route and allocated Rs 100 crore for it. It clearly shows that there is no communication between the two agencies.”
ONE YEAR OF CORRUPTION
On the completion of BJP’s one year in PMC, NCP has decided to organise a long march on Thursday to protest against one year of corruption by BJP. The agitation will start from Lal Mahal to PMC building at 3 pm. Tupe said, “Puneities gave full support to BJP but they haven’t done anything for the development of the city. It is one black year in BJP’s tenure in the PMC. We are going to show their incompetence in the agitation.”
