Central Railway offers free Wi-Fi service at 224 stns

PUNE: The Central Railway (CR) has provided Wi-Fi facility at 224 stations. The service is being provided by RailTel with high-speed end-to-end network connectivity on Optical Fibre Cable (OFC).

The CR, Mumbai Division has 42 stations, Bhusaval Division has 27 stations, Nagpur Division 66, Pune Division 44 and Solapur Division 45 stations. The work of extending it to 159 more stations is in the process.

The CR, in a statement, said, “Railway stations are places where a cross-section of people congregate for their transportation needs. This initiative is part of bridging the digital divide and providing a high-speed access network to all rail users. This facility shall help railway passengers remain connected while waiting for the train at stations. They can also use this facility for streaming high-resolution videos, do their office work online, etc.”

“Under Prime Minister’s Digital India Initiative, Ministry of Railways proposed to provide Wi-Fi facility to rail users at 4,791 railway stations across the Indian Railways network. RailWire Wi-Fi at railway stations is quite popular and even though passengers have easy access to mobile Internet, Wi-Fi is still a preferred choice of rail users,” read the statement.

ACCESSING WI-FI AT STATIONS
Wi-Fi will be available to users who have a smartphone with a working mobile connection for KYC considerations. To use the Wi-Fi, the user has to switch on the Wi-Fi mode and select the RailWire Wi-Fi network. After the RailWire homepage network automatically appears, the user has to enter his or her mobile number on this homepage. The user will get a one-time password (OTP) in the form of SMS text message which has to be entered in the home page of RailWire. After entering the OTP, users will be able to access high-speed Internet and can browse on the Internet.

NEW COACHES
The Railway administration has decided to induct Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches in two trains running from Pune Division under Central Railway. The train number 12157/58 Solapur-Pune Hutatma Express and 11026/25 Pune-Bhusawal Express will get LHB coaches in two rakes.
