CBSE Standard X, XII exams to be held in Feb

PUNE: In a recent circular, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared that the board examinations for Class 10 and 12 will begin in the month of February 2019, around a month earlier than usual.

The examination for Skill Education (Vocational) and related subjects will begin in the second half of February. The examinations for all core academic subjects such as Languages, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics, Business studies, Accountancy and Economics will continue to be held March at the external examinations centres fixed by the Board.

This decision was taken in pursuance of a court order. The Delhi High Court on July 11, 2018 directed Delhi University and CBSE to ensure that from the commencing academic year, the result of CBSE, including results of re-evaluation are taken into account while determining the cut-off date for admission to colleges of the University of Delhi. Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar directed CBSE and Delhi University to make efforts in this direction.

There are 40 Skill Education (Vocational) subjects being offered in Class 12 and 15 in Class 10. There are also related subjects such as Typography and Computer Applications (English), Web Applications, Graphics, Office Communication where there are few students, in fact, less than 500. These will also be included in February exams as these subjects have larger practical component and shorter theory papers.

The statement stated that this slight advancement of date will facilitate slightly earlier declaration of both main results and the re-evaluation results. The subjects for which the exams will be held in February and in March will soon be notified on the CBSE website.
