CAPSTAR-05 kicks off at MILIT

Pune: The 5th Capsule on Science, Technology and Applied Research (CAPSTAR-05) was inaugurated at Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) on Wednesday. The event, which will go on till September 15, was inaugurated by Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister and Director General of Missiles and Strategic Systems.  

CAPSTAR is a unique platform, where eminent speakers from various fields present talks on their area of vertical specialisation. 

Lt Gen AV Subramanian (Retd), Dr OR Nandagopan (Director, Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, Visakhapatnam), T Panneer Selvam (Combat Vehicles Research and Development Estt, Chennai), Dr Ajit T Kalghatgi (Director (R&D), Bharat Electronics, Bangalore), Prof Gopal Malviya (Former Dean, Jammu Central University and Head, Dept of Strategic Studies, Anna University Chennai), Vernon Noronha (Head, Defence Production Line, M/s Tata Motors), Capt Brijesh K Kalra IN (Retd) (Vice President, Head, Strategic Systems Complex, Talegaon, M/s L&T), Capt SK Patnaik (Retd) (Sr Vice President, Head Business Development, M/s Reliance Defence, Gujarat), Col Rajinder Singh Bhatia (Retd) (COO, M/s Bharat Forge), Brig Neeraj Varshney (DACIDS Tech Int, DIA HQ IDS) and Dr Adalat Ali OS (Distinguished fellow, DRDO) are the guest speakers and panellists.

The main objective of CAPSTAR is to highlight the importance of technology at the strategic level, appreciate aspects of defence technology and to expose the participants to ongoing indigenous development by various government and non-government organisations. 

Lt Gen AV Subramanian (Retd) delivered a talk on ‘Incubating Innovation in Defence Technology’. Dr OR Nandagopan addressed the ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Development of Naval Armament’ on Wednesday.

The overview of these panel discussions is quite versatile and covers various topics related to Collaboration and Innovation Opportunities for Defence Technology under Make in India, Issues with ToT during Indigenisation of Equipment and Challenges of Make in India - L&T Approach, Challenges in Modern Ship Building Technology - Make in India Initiative, Industry perspective, Strategic Partnership with Foreign OEMs.
