BVVJSS writes to PM, want reservations in Parliament

Pune: Members of the Bhatke Va Vimukta Jaati Samanvay Samiti (BVVJSS) have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding reservation for nomadic tribes and other backward class (OBC) for Member of Parliament (MP) seats.

The members have appreciated the move of the BJP government on sub-categorisation of OBC and have appealed to the government to categorise people on the basis of their economic status. V Avdhut from BVVJSS, who conducted a press conference at Patrakar Bhavan on Wednesday said that reservation should be granted to people on the basis of population.

“Similarly, categorisation should be done on the basis of profession and economic class of people falling in OBC category,” he said.

In October, Prime Minister Modi had set up a commission for sub-categorisation of OBCs. Members of the panel were appointed by President Ram Nath Kovind. The move of sub-categorisation of the OBCs was planned to ensure that the more backward among the OBC communities can also access the benefits of reservation for educational institutions and government jobs.

“The population of OBCs should be checked and accordingly, reservation should be provided. Political leader Ramdas Athawale had suggested 75 per cent reservation, but it is yet to be implemented,” added Avdhut.
