Pune: Researches should be expanded beyond the walls of the university and focus on issues, which will have a social impact, emphasised Satyapal Singh, Minister of State for Human Resource Development responsible for Higher Education, during the 19th convocation ceremony of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVDU) on Friday.

A total of 7,338 graduates had received degree certificates, 90 students got their PhD certificates and 50 students were awarded gold medals.
Besides Singh, who was the chief guest, Chancellor of BVDU Shivajirao Kadam, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Manikrao Salunke, Pro-VC Vishwajeet Kadam, Registrar G Jaykumar, Controller of Examination Vishwas Dhapate and heads of all departments were present at the event. “Most of the researches done by students are restricted to the university only. The research study should be expanded to issues, which impact society,” said Singh.

Singh further insisted on developing the quality of research work done in the country. “Although India has one of the highest number of PhD holders, the research quality is still a matter of concern. Many professors publish their thesis only to achieve promotions, which is a sad thing. It is huge responsibility and challenge ahead for universities to create a mindset that quality research can be brought in with creativity and innovative research study. Even today, many students are deprived of higher education. Private universities can play a significant role in taking higher education to those needy,” said Singh.
