Pune: The name of an Indore-based man has emerged as a suspect in connection with the murder of builder Deven Shah, who was shot dead in the parking lot of his residence at Prabhat Road on Saturday night by two men identified as Ravindra Chorge and Rahul Shivtare.

According to sources, the Indore-based man has been identified as Rajesh Agrawal and he contacted the accused shooters many times a day prior to the murder.

A source said, “Agrawal has four mobile numbers on his name and is absconding for last three days. He was residing at Shriji Valley Township in Bicholi Mardana area of Kanadia police station area in Indore. When the police reached his flat, it was locked and they learnt that he is unavailable since Sunday and all his cell phones are switched off.”

Agrawal used to live in the upmarket Manishpuri area of Saket Nagar in Indore. But three years ago, he shifted to Shriji Valley Township with his wife, whereas his parents live in Bhopal.

“Agrawal is a suspect as he contacted the shooters and is absconding since the day Shah died. However, there is no clarity on his background,” a source added.

A police officer, on condition of anonymity, said, “Atit Shah, son of Devendra Shah said his uncle and brother of his father were also murdered in Mumbai after which the family shifted to Pune. Rumours are rife that Chorge and Shivtare used to settle the land disputes using the name of don Chhota Rajan, however there is no confirmation on this. The truth will come to light only after their arrest.”

Rashmi Shukla, Commissioner of Police, Pune, said, “Four police teams have been dispatched to arrest the killers. They will be arrested soon.”
