Budget nod for new SPPU courses likely

Pune: After the academic and management councils approved the start of a few new courses, the budget for the same is likely to get approved during the Senate meeting of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). There are at least five subjects that are likely to get budget approval. The Senate meeting is to be held on April 20.

The university has introduced several new courses which will strengthen the research and innovation with new technology.

The university had earlier announced BSc blended courses under School of Interdisciplinary Sciences which will consist of subjects in four areas including environmental science, chemistry, physics and earth and atmospheric sciences. Masters in Design Thinking courses which will include landscape, production design, industry design will be offered. Besides, courses in astrophysics and astrobiology will also be provided from the new academic year.

“Proposals for introduction of new courses were already presented and approved in academic and management council meetings. These courses will be sealed by allocating appropriate budget for the course. After which, the new courses will commence in the university,” said Nitin Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor of SPPU. Apart from the budget, the Senate meeting will observe discussion over refectory related issues, repeated paper leaks -- in the backdrop of recent law paper leak and to include a non-teaching staff representative in the non-teaching staff committee etc.
