Boy killed by friend in Warje

PUNE: A 15-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death by his neighbour on Sunday. The incident came to light on Thursday after the accused led the police to the place where he had buried the boy with the help of his accomplice. The motive behind the murder is still not clear.

The deceased Nikhil Anant Angrolkar, a resident of Vithalnagar in Warje, was studying in class 10. The arrested accused has been identified as Vinaysingh Virendrasingh Rajput, a native of Uttar Pradesh, who lived with his family in Hingne building in Vithalnagar. He works as an instructor with a gym in Warje.

According to the police, both families have close ties and Nikhil and Rajput were friends. On Sunday evening, Nikhil had left home but did not return. His family searched for him throughout the night. Rajput was also searching with the family. As he was not found, a missing complaint was lodged with the police on Monday.

While investigating the case, the police learnt about the murder and detained Rajput, who led them to the place near Dodke farmhouse in Warje.

Nikhil is survived by his parents and three sisters. Nikhil's father said that Rajput had food at their house several times. “We never imagined he would do kill our son," he added.

Police officials said that Rajput had taken Nikhil on his bike at a bungalow near the farmhouse and strangled him to death. Later, he called his friend Rishikesh Pol and they carried Nikhil's body on the bike for about 500 metres and buried him. The police are searching for Pol.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Mangesh Shinde, ACP Bajirao Mohite, senior Police Inspector Rekha Salunkhe, in-charge of Warje police station, visited the spot. Police Inspector (Crime) Prakash Khandekar is investigating the case.
